If you have a modern-day flat-panel HDTV equipped with HDMI, it is directly compatible with PCs that have DVI or HDMI outputs.

If you only have an old obsolete low-definition boob-tube TV, then you will need a signal converter box of some sort that can translate your computer’s VGA signal to whatever the TV needs (S-video, composite, etc.), but I would recommend against that– low-definition boob-tube TVs have terrible image quality and are totally unsuitable for use as computer monitors.
